Just listened to Future Tense a pubic radio show with an interview with Dr. Michael Wesch, from Kansas State University. He created a video for YouTube about Web 2.0 which I have been using in my session at Colloquia called Web 2.0: The Machine is Using Us.
Listen to the interview on the Oct. 25 issue of Future Tense: http://www.publicradio.org/columns/futuretense/2007/10/index.shtml
Here is a quote from the inteview:
media literacy
"our students are really really good at enteraing themselves with media but their not very good at educating themselves...their not very good at....really not that good at finding high quality information, sorting it, finding what's relevant, critqueing it, analyzing it and then ultimately creating good information"
teachers are still teaching as though information is scarce
"social networking has an important role in intellectual endeavours"
He and his students have recently created a new video called A vision of Students Today.
Dr. Wesch also has a blog at http://mediatedcultures.net/ksudigg/
